Carson’s Scene

So me and Mk started work on a comic. I decided to write a few scenes to get a feel for the characters and what the overall storyline is gonna be about. This is the first one. It’s about one of the main characters, a girl named Carson that works in a bookstore. *curtains open*

“God, this is boring.” Carson leaned with her elbows on the counter of the bookstore where she worked, her back to the rest of the store, facing the window that looked onto the street. Her eyes drifted in and out of focus as various goings-on attracted her attention and lost it seconds later. “Excuse me. I would like to purchase this volume.” Carson whipped around, blushing slightly at the thought of anyone overhearing her complain while on the job. Before her stood a man of questionable intelligence and even more questionable fashion sense. The popular retail outlet Big and Tall would be blessed to have him as a model for their wares, as he was the very definition of their intended demographic. In a huge bear’s paw of a hand he proffered a coffee table book entitled, “Shimmying in the Wind: Impressive Collections of Dashboard Hula Girls.” Carson scowled and grabbed the book from him roughly. He took no notice and smiled serenely at her, clearly pleased with his newly acquired treasure. The scowl sizzled away as he vacated the premises and she returned to staring vacantly out the window.

I feel like I’ve lost myself and become one of those disposable friends that you only want to talk to every once in a while, like I’m only good for a few laughs and then its fine to put me back in the pocket. I’ve let myself become frustratingly gullable and easily played. Though I would like to think that my ‘friends’ genuinely care about me, its hard to see it when I’m only contacted out of nessecity and convenience.
